Pilots have to now trust corporations only because there’s no government watchdogs to make sure they’re not screwing up – and despite not doing it perfectly, you need a redundant pairing between corporate and government for safety. Example of something new: Pilots are starting to abandon flights because they don’t feel comfortable in the plane they were given. Things “feel” a little ‘off’ so they refuse to fly the plane. That’s not just due to hype: the devastation and oddness of the TYPES of crashes combined with with the massive DISMANTLING of the FAA into unrecognizable parts = loss of faith in the system BY THE PILOTS.
