Monasteries tend to be more successful because they have an ideology and structure that’s strong and established, plus they have donation Sources that’s go beyond what they can produce with their labor. They’re typically structured in such a way that poverty and some kind of suffering is virtuous which allows for the lack of goods and some basic human needs lacking in exchange for some kind of reward, whether it be Enlightenment or connection with a God or better personality or something. Any of which may be true I don’t know. There’s certainly many though and you get out of them what you put into them, depending how much : what kinds of governing structures they use.
