you can experiment.
I do this with the artificial intelligence here on Facebook all the time.
as it suggest friends to me, or suggests me to others, it expands and contracts my affordances invisibly in that way.
Once upon a time, i convinced it i was moderate politically.
this had interesting effects.
then i took a year and shifted until it believed i am liberal (far left really but they don’t have that category).
that had other effects in which posts show and don’t.
so without even engaging with people, there are experiments on a smart platform like this.
I have made boundaries. most of them are in the non-people realm that I know will affect my engagements here.
for example, selecting brands that I like and eliminating what i don’t.
I am ruthless with Media now that I don’t want to see anymore.
PragerU was the first i swept away a few years ago. every instance i simply removed the source.
if it was shared by a friend through somebody I don’t know, I would tell Facebook to show no more from the person that shared the item i don’t like – but not my friend.
so it indirectly let Facebook know that I didn’t care for that kind of stuff regularly.
And yet I did it without directly interfering with friends.
Facebook likes to show argumentative things to me. I think that is one of the algorithms they use.
And my rule is that I will engage if they are sharing in their own words.
But if they are copying words or memes i ignore it.
it has to be theirs or seem to be. then i will listen.
so for me this helps.
