“You can do better than that,” I’m sharing a story that actually happened recently. You’ve heard others? Great. None of them were mine. Those are your stories and you put mine on the shelf with those. That’s fine. I should start posting this on grocery store freezers.

For me, I was that kid. Pissed off with no voice. I turned to George Carlin. He was an adult and showed me that apathy is a solution.

My mentor, his is the advice I followed without question for 30 years.

It’s powerful, so I don’t fault you for doing the same.

George Carlin’s voice in my head was so everyday and common for me for 30 years, I made a conscious effort to PAUSE it. Made an image to remind myself.

I know it sounds weird but I only ever had one opinion on voting – a combination of George Carlin’s plus “but it’s a civic duty so do it anyway” (from Boy Scouts).

So, big shift for my thinking. I had all his LPs in the 80s, followed his stand-up, knew most of his jokes, agreed with him on most things.

But a lot’s ’cause of where I live. Got this stuff all over which is why I had to shut Carlin up for a few months to push for Andrew Gillum in FL and I let myself drink some other kool-aid for a change.

Me in 2016. Still in “fuck it” mode Voted but didn’t care really. There’s Carlin as my top 3 mentors.

I’m not saying any of this to convince anybody to do anything. I expect everybody to retain their opinions they started with.
