Yes, with the Orthodox I did my everything to conform; that’s why I dove into the theology. The Essence vs Energies I could accept. The notion of “Church as Hospital” I could accept. A medicinal view of the practices worked for me and allowed me accept reciting the Nicene Creed. However, I think it’s their notion of Church that eventually I couldn’t hold to. I ‘get’ the idea of putting up barriers to prevent ‘infection’ as it were (continuing with a hospital motif) but that clashed heavily against the very welcoming Methodist and Unitarian experiences I’d had; and the “come one come all we’re not supposed to judge so come on in” was stronger than all the heavy theological stuff from the Orthodox which fed my technical brain but not my need to welcome all.
