Yes I agree – and in fact I do with some movies. I also learn a lot about a persons outlook on life based upon the movies that inspire them. But I also judge and stereotype quickly – the feel of a movie or subgenre almost becomes more important to me than themes. The reason for me is movies generally have common themes that are easily compressible by “feel”. A sarcastic bloody movie where death is funny, people aren’t particularly nice to one another – this “feel” of a movie take away from me an interest in studying it further. There are likely many interesting things about them. But if I get a feel for a movie that the good guys are jerks, the bad guys are jerks and the redeeming character traits are something in the subtext… Well anyway that’s my prejudice.
