Yes but it’s not without SOME precedent or justification:
What’s known as transracial adoption is a common practice among white evangelical christian parents. This has been going on for decades and it’s with what at least used to be an explicit purpose; to “raise the black out of them” as it were. Some for religious reasons, some for political reasons and usually some mixture of the two. Nowadays we think more of conservative vs liberal things; so it’s not wrong to see it as attempting to raise a generation of conservative black men who could fit in “genteel” society.
So, while it’s not the same, there’s some similarity to it as concerns by many in black America with specifically white men marrying black women.
It’s also not uncommon for women to try to protect other women – just as men often do with other men – by judging who they’re thinking of marrying and why.
I don’t think of this as so strange.
