eek, i don’t like that feeling either. No landmarks. no compass handy. I don’t even see any moss on the trees to indicate North…
… yeah, my heart would be beating out of my chest in that situation.

I’ve only been that kind of lost a few times in my life and I don’t like it one bit. Heavily traveled woods usually have variety, spraypaint on the trees, or SOMETHING… but preserves or untouched lands are frightening because there’s no landmarks, and there’s no knowing if a clearing is the way out, or simply more of the way “in”.
You can try to find “downhill” towards a stream, which leads you out. but not everywhere has a stream… and you could look for moss on the trees: it’s always North: but if there’s no moss or other shady growth around the trees… you don’t have that.
Whew…I definitely feel for ya.

weird… I know zero about it. I went there once in my life. 14 yrs old… maybe 16… camping all the way across to Colorado for a “Methodist Youth Conference”. Something for future ministers. Thousands of teenagers getting pep talks for a weekend. Had trouble breathing but it was cool.
