Yeah, it effectively keeps the in-group very small and insular, like preteen girls who invent a new word, point and laugh and nobody understands them.
They think they’re the in crowd, not realizing that there’s a reason why people just shake their heads as they walk away.

Racism isn’t edgy. Maybe annoying but edgy? Naw. It’s middle school jokes that some people just kept telling.
===
Hitler-esque rhetoric was there in the beginning of my experience on the Internet (1989+) and BBS. Racist jokes, separatist politics, all commonplace. White power was at a peak in high schools in the mid 1990s among both guys and girls. Mid 00s started to see some growth in Southern pride.
But edgy? Not edgy.

People still calling things cancer and saying kys? Man, I feel like it’s still 2014 and this is Youtube.
===
First time I saw “drink bleach” and kys was Youtube comments in 2013/14 as well as calling things cancer. It didn’t make it much into Google plus, although a little bit.
It made a brief appearance on Vine but quickly disappeared in 2015.
Now it’s all over iFunny.
I’m weird: I notice movements of stuff like this. Stupid hobby.

My rule of thumb is: Once a ‘thing’ is adopted by the 3rd-6th graders (8-11 yr old), it peaks and explodes everywhere. That’s when it reaches the public eye not long afterwards. It’s the beginning of it again (Filthy Frank’s “IT’S TIME TO STOP” was fantastic: I loved that video he did in response to Shia) – but at the same time, that means it’s the end of it being edgy and novel.
Yet I don’t know what will replace it for insults.
I got my eyes peeled though. I love spotting new trends when they emerge.

I love the ‘dat boi’ memes, Pepe’s pseudo ne that has been replacing Pepe in the frog commentary… adding an element of confusion because it’s BOTH used to insult some, and as empowerment to others. [oh no, here’s comes dat boi – oh shit whaddup… or “yeah, I’m dat boi (a weirdo)” and proud of it ’cause IDGAF).
I should write about this stuff, but I prefer watching trends rise and fall.

Thanks smile emoticon I keep thinking about it but here’s my problem:
If I do that, I effectively kill the meme… and I want them to live and die of natural causes smile emoticon
I miss the Illuminati ones… they were fun… and I liked being able to understand the 360noscope momgetthecamera stuff… and I’ve been watching usage of m8 die down… but, new ones keep coming up, so I just ride the next wave.
