Yeah, collecting your stuff off there is a good idea.

For myself, I created a whole site just to backup things I wrote on various sites through the years. http://icopiedyou.com — it’s ugly on purpose because I use it as a dumping ground and for me to ‘search my own brain’.

Text is the universal format. It can look ugly but easily fixed.

You can use anything to back up with. Copy/paste is the best thing. If you use a phone, you can link up to Gmail and have your “Notes” backed up automatically. [at least on iPhone and I’m sure Android has a similar thing]. The “Notes” show up as another folder in your gmail.

I trust gmail to hang around. Some other services you can’t always be sure but email is still ‘sacred stuff’ so companies don’t usually mess with genuine email accounts… usually, so you can expect it to be around for a long time.

Local backups ultimately important. Flash drive, hard drive, whatever you’ve got that’s around. Printing out is the ultimate backup because paper lasts a long time, although it’s a pain to have to retype things. My ‘someday’ list is printing out but for now I’m not ready.

Yeah, collecting your stuff off there is a good idea.
