wondering if gauges are from conservation of energy but then I’m thinking what if it’s simply the extents of the ranges (antinodes, maximum displacement) and what’s NOT is the gauges but then I think of the consistency of them (symmetry) and next thing I know I’m back at the partition problem and then I remember the kind of problem solving that usually takes place here and the distinction between nearly-feasible instances vs the smaller set of feasible instances within and the “best case”/”just works”/”proof of concept” and/or generalizations that can gloss over some very significant pitfalls (that is, zooming in to answer a specific workable solution or zooming out to answer a class and consider the larger class of ‘nearly-feasible’ “exceptions” to a newly constructed class – and [well, basically you make the “feasible” king and generalize it – it’s a change of framing/mindset/perspective) – and I realize I need a little more coffee as I’m not awake yet.
