I saw in a book regarding diagnostic Aspergers in children, something about having long lists of rules / explicit procedures for things; things that are processed more implicitly in others. There were a few narratives illustrating it, along with some scientific looking data.
That was the final “clicking in” piece of the puzzle for me, after years of on-off suspicions that i might ‘have it’.
I have on my starting off point, “Where’s the BS here?” and even if I don’t mention it in a conversation (verbal/written), it’s (_unfortunately_ sometimes) my Rule #1. I sift through multiple contexts/perspectives to find it but I start with the task of finding the BS. Started when I was 8 yrs old and noticed BS in a TV commercial and it got me very very angry because I *wanted* to believe the toy truck was really awesome, but then I saw all the unrealistic things in this 30 second commercial.
Spent years analyzing BS in TV commercials as a kid, even put the topic in a few English papers in school.
[I could actually make a career of it but who would read a book or a blog going through “how many ways is this commercial trying to deceive people?”]
So, my “question #1” when approaching information is probably different from many people. I don’t *want* it to be my question #1 but it’s a deeply embedded one. Other rules are stacked up on top of there.
