when I saw Hawking get up there and try to prove God-need-not-exist, I realized he fell into the fad himself.

Yes, and unfortunately the public image of modern science (by modern I speak of this current popular spokespeople for science): They don’t do history very well at all.

You can learn a lot about society’s attitudes by looking at comedy. I don’t have any ready examples, but I’ve seen a few skits/parodies that show theoretical physicists in particular (the poster children of “Science” for much of the public) as mixing up the Crusades, with no concept of ANYTHING of historical value happening post Ancient Greece until Galileo came along and got burned at the stake (what!?)… etc.

Unfortunately, when I saw Hawking get up there and try to prove God-need-not-exist, I realized he fell into the fad himself. Oh well. I suppose the man has a right to his opinion, but basic theology is not his strong point smile emoticon
