I was influenced greatly (and positively) by Norman Vincent Peale when I was a kid. Guideposts on the back of the toilet every week and I’d read his words of wisdom for the Power of Positive Thinking.. or how the energies would make their way to you when you tried to bite off more than you could chew… that type of thing.
When I found out that Trump’s dad and him were both fans of Peale, it made a lot of sense.
Those types of teaching (repackaged as “The Secret” by someone else more recently, calling it the “law of attraction’) are *generally* harmless enough but somewhat delusional and can be problematic if taken too far.
In these types of teachings, facts really don’t matter much. Rather what matters is the personal power (to use Anthony Robbin’s version of the same concepts) it gives you. Whatever it takes to get you into that state is ok.
This makes Trump immune to facts but… the rest of us won’t have that luxury.
