I’m 44, and I always classified Vaporwave and Keygen as “video game music” ’cause they use all the sounds I grew up with as a kid and use them in fantastically creative ways. When the late 90s came around and I started to hear old familiar sounds coming back, I knew the world would be ok. [and gamer culture was vindication for all the assholes I believed when I was 16 yrs old in 1988 and decided “No more getting into video games because they’re for kids” [instead I shifted to beta testing, which made it ‘serious’].
When gamer culture emerged, I knew that 16 yr old me would’ve been right not to listen but it would’ve been kinda lonely way back in history.

I appreciate all the video game music genres without prejudice and enjoy them unironically.
