Were the “The Dems” consistently using it? You have an example of Biden using it. Let’s look at the judge. Now she is PRECISELY my age. Amy Vivian Coney January 28, 1972 (age 50) TIL she is my birthday twin. So _I know_, she knows full well about sexual preference being out dated for a long time. She would’ve grown up with it in common usage and then heard the bru-haha over “is gay genetic or choice?” and at that point, people formed ‘camps’ – and those that chose the “it’s a choice” camp also supported conversion therapy, etc.

Older people are given leeway for using words incorrectly. Trump being old famously had a litany of out of date phrases as does Biden. This is expected and while they get called out of it, that’s given some forgiveness in society. Even people who couldn’t stand Trump just rolled their eyes at some of the old people stuff he said because of that factor.
What made Amy Comey’s usage of the phrase specifically offensive, is because that was the intention; any college educated 50 year old in the USA is as likely to know whether they fall into the “is it a choice or is it genetic?” camp as a GenZ will have opinions about gender fluidity and the femboy outback vs tomboy hooters
