We’re not getting screwed by other countries. We are always the aggressors and continue to be, while both declaring we’re the Greatest Most Powerful Country in the World (out of 195 countries), and crying that other countries just don’t treat us fairly or saying “We’re your friend – you wouldn’t hurt your friend, would you?”. Trump is not inventing anything new here. This is what America does. He is also rather standardly continuing the neoliberal model solidified by Margaret Thatcher and followed by Reagan too. And he’s shackled. He must. But you see, he is behaving as he started all these new things. Sure, he fires all the ambassadors. He destroys long-standing committees that existed for years. He wrecks long-term trusted relationships between us and other nations. But the model of neoliberalism that he follows will continue *in spite of* whatever he does. It’s not because of. Why did he lower all the tariffs down to something that was no big deal? Why did he reset tariffs for Canada and Mexico to PREVIOUSLY AGREED UPON LEVELS under Biden? He had no choice. Like Mexico and Canada, they generally are agreeable to patting him on the head and letting him pretend he’s Mr. Tough Negotiator. But is he?
