Well there’s certainly many levels. For example, at 8 years old, I was watching a TV commercial for a toy truck. Exciting, loud, boys pushing this big truck at the screen and playing with it.. …and I suddenly noticed: The boy holding the truck is very small, the camera was low, and the truck was pushed into the camera and that’s why it looked huge. THEY WERE LYING! The truck wasn’t big – it was very small. I was so angry that I was being lied to. I noticed how small his hands were, made the truck look big. I saw his arm outstretched long, compared the size the truck seemed on the TV while he was waving it around vs what it was in reality, which you saw at the end of the commercial as it sat there and the man said real quickly “* Batteries Sold Separately” and so in that moment, I had an awakening to a little piece of the reality of this world. In that moment, I saw I was a pawn, a sucker, being used, part of a large group of people being lied to simultaneously. It may not be a big awakening in the scheme of awakenings, but it was one of many to come. I remember them all. That kind of awakening is relation of other-to-self. Not as sophisticated as self-to-self. But it’s a start of noticing cracks in the reality-as-presented.

Shifting from “they lie to me” to “I lie to me” can be another seismic shift
