Well, that’s where you have to get specific as to what your “air quotes” apply to. I’ve been breathing this on and off since Hampshire College (even such a short stay) so it’s like second air to me. Even prior at 14 I read Summerhill and John Holt which convinced me I needed to get out of public school and into some kind of smaller class school environment, which propelled me into finding SOMETHING – and a scholarship to Vail-Deane was it. I can’t say I understand every branch – hardly at all. They’re all very distinct from one another.  You’ve probably gone over my head a bit then. Is there a phenomenon from the last 25-30 years that your concern relates to? Maybe I can hitch my thinking onto that to understand better.
