Well said. I’ve been in a process of dismantling my idols for years; been hard in some cases. What survives that’s good survives and I accept the dirt with the shine but I will call it dirt if it’s dirt; an attempt of an honest approach at things.
But I allow the magic to come in the first time around. I suspend my disbelief when they tell me the story the right way that I like, when they surprise me in the right ways, play the right notes in my psyche .Then after the ride is over and I’ve had the happy, I’ll put the happy in a safe space in the brain to retrieve at will and introduce the negative nellie who will pour the sour milk into anything and see what it can find. It can’t affect the good stuff I had, but it allows me to task switch as needed
