Well-run charter schools with full transparency, government and community accountability *can* work.
But fraud is always a danger and is already a known issue with many US charter schools. When profit is the motive, the temptation to inflate attendance to increase stipends is tremendous and many have given into that.
I’m in Florida. We seem to have a functional hybrid charter school / public school system that works. I don’t have any hard data, but we seem to be a successful model.
Can that translate federally and then trickle down to all states? It’s an open question.
That said, I do not trust Betsy DeVos and because education is important to me, I’ll be keeping both eyes open.
