Well, one comforting thing I remember from cognitive development psych is that children know the difference between fantasy and reality by 3.5 – 4 years old. So, we don’t lack the capability to be able to tell the difference – so long as it’s clear from the outset that this a “once upon a time”.

(ie – the “i though my brother would come back to life like in the cartoons” defense won’t fly after 4 years of age. So any murdering kindergarteners should take note that adults won’t believe them – or shouldn
