Well, it’s a possibility I’m just looking into today.
You see, the layering. The layering kept bothering me. Everywhere I look there’s layers. But then, things are happening in the layers too. So you zoom in. More layers of a different kind.
The thing, a distinction, then the thing again.
So the other week, I learn of a distinction between “bulk and surface” in crystals. VERY useful indeed. Some things analogize to bulk in crystals such as regularities — a lot of the symmetry mathematics comes directly from solid state physics with crystals – but then you have the things that change over time and mix and fracture and shift and fold and diffuse at the surface – interface between two forms of matter, or the same matter under duress…
and… well… I dunno. it never stops being interesting.
