Weird realization moment: I’m already accustomed to “Capitalist slave labor” thinking. Unions are actually foreign to me.
I know that the “Right to Work” only means “Right to Fire” [or Right to do nearly anything to your workers that doesn’t go against existing law] and so for that, it’s misleading and wrong.
But what about Unions? I’ve never had a Union job and only heard about it from others. Unions rarely get good press in media for as long as I can remember and most politicians and businesses want them gone as it shares power.
Yet most people in Unions seem glad to be and give reasons why it’s important.
My weird realization is when Florida was referred to as a “Capitalist slave labor state”, with low wage jobs with high turnover, fire-at-will, mostly subcontractors and few actual employees…
..and that all seems normal to me. Even in New Jersey which has Unions, they always seemed a little foreign to me, as tech jobs aren’t generally Union jobs. Trade jobs are.
So, I’m learning.
