We got off it to control a crippling inflation. I doubt the US would go back to it, at least not in this Presidency.
He made his decision. Hooking with the Saudi’s (read: OPEC) means he decided on staying with the status quo.
Maybe the next President will do something to change it, but not this one.
I was kind of disappointed and relieved at the same time oddly when he hooked up with Saudi’s. Disappointed because there’s that side of me that wonders, “Gee, *what if* we did a total upheaval of the world monetary system by dumping the oil connection and gong back to stockpiles of precious metal?” and also relieved because as much a I hate it, we need our Saudi connection… and I like having some of the cheapest gas on the planet.
Same thing with the Dollar Stores, Walmart and China connection. I worried a bit about a truly Protectionist government – but as things are going, it seems that status-quo will remain despite rhetoric, and I’ll still be able to enjoy the $1-for-everything stores. I hate admitting that I like cheap stuff… but I like cheap stuff.
