Very well written. The vision of the United States he considers a division in this article (I have not read his book on the subject), I consider what the United States is, which is in a state of ontological pluralism.
Being a nation of laws, one thing that strongly binds us is the court system as authorized by the US Constitution remaining within certain tolerances which, unfortunately have had a very wide range of acceptability through the centuries.
I’m not studied enough to name names or eras but we have had conservative courts, balanced courts, activist courts, liberal courts.
[Kavanaugh is an activist, Gorsuch is conservative – that is the meaning I’m using]
So I think this is within the growing pains of what is the United States of America the experiment but it’s not pretty to go through sometimes. Yet I still believe in it as a broader notion.
But what I remember is changing? More definitely.
In short, I’m not afraid of the future of the United States but it is quite irritating at times.
