Oh yes, I have been absolutely fascinated by marketing since I was a little boy and I noticed a toy commercial. It was for a toy truck. The announcer was yelling at the screen (this would be.. 1980 when I was 😎 and the boys were screaming at how wonderful this toy truck was. Normal for American TV ads of the era. But what I spotted for the first time was the size of the boys and the truck; I realized the boys were very very small boys for their ages and they kept holding the truck right in front of the camera, and the camera was really close to the truck looking up at the kids and I was mad. They’re lying to me. The truck is not that size. This is a lie. That was the first of many times and I became interested in the ways ads and marketing, politicians, etc – rhetoric in general – can be used to guide opinion.
