t’s not spooky. That’s what emergence is.
What’s awesome about emergence is that there’s often universal properties of collective behaviors.
Why can cellular automata work like a flock of birds? Because they follow the same collective behavioral patterns. The individual cells or birds know nothing but what their limited range dictates.

r I’ve been working with cellular automata for decades. Shit’s amazing. so many things can be modeled.
You can predict general patterns collectively but not via the individual units nor even a small cluster of them.
You need a critical amount of individual units for the collective behavioral patterns to operate
===
It’s easy to take a PRIVILEGED VIEW which knows the individual and the collective behaviors alike and can model both mathematically simultaneously.
But we do not have access to the privileged / gods eye view much of the time.
Why is weather so damn hard to model?
It’s not that it’s theoretically impossible; but it’s damn hard.
I’m NOT arguing that SOMEDAY we could. I hope we can. At the macro level we SHOULD BE ABLE to do so eventually.

mean if you want to argue from authority. you can. But I honestly prefer to discuss things 2-way as we are rather than watch-video. I’ll be happy to watch it -and I will because I promised – but I always prefer discussion.
