This article is a very positive sign: political news is this slow.
Mohamed Benjelloun’s take is the strongest.
I look to the author to compare subject matter.
I scrolled back for a year and every article is very much about political activities, particularly feelings of one politician or group, but always the standard Republican versus Democrat, and rather balanced between the two at least by headline.
Yet here is something completely different.
Who is the protagonist and the antagonist in this battle?
Was this news or opinion?
This was opinion masked as news.
If a serious political news writer is attempting to CREATE an issue between a new “ME and YOU and US all” VS “HER and those who agree with HER which should not be YOU” — then actual political news must be slow.
The hefty weight and influence of the OPINION of a seasoned political writer is categorized as NEWS vs an OPINION PIECE that went viral.
Its news that it went viral.
Expressing one’s own opinion is not news but opinion.
So I do see some kind of privilege here.
I haven’t read the original opinion piece so I am not going to express my opinion as I only have a secondhand opinion to work from.
But I do see A political news writer expressing an opinion given the weight of a news story going into battle against somebody who is not a political news writer that wrote an opinion piece.
