Thing is: I don’t want people’s constitutional rights taken away. As it is, Red Flag laws, supported by both Republicans and Democrats revert the power to that of mere suspicion whereby police will be authorized to NOT ONLY take away guns but ALSO whisk a person away to a facility with most of the Constitutional rights taken away. Gotta be REAL careful _how_ “mental health” is used to justify police action. Grab the Constitutional lawyers, sit at a round table and hash it out so that nobody’s rights get infringed.

This and also applied to adults, is where pinning mass shootings on “mental health” leads to.

Florida is a model for a lot of good laws but this one isn’t one. Getting the Baker Act removes not only 2ndA but pretty much all of them at once, creating a second class of citizen.

This kind of law is supported by standard Republicans in power and standard Democrats in power, whose own kids and families won’t be affected as they can afford to not get diagnosed on a whim and are safe from police powers.

So, careful what you wish for as what you get might not be what you thought.

Oh, I don’t know if it’s most or not, but I don’t think there are puppetmasters who want this. It makes a fascinating narrative: Amazon wants people to shop from home instead of Walmart… it’s to give power to police by the wealthy who won’t be affected by it (the ‘mental health’ argument does lead to that)… but I dunno.

I think there are plenty who don’t CARE whether it happens or not… but the constant calls to thoughts and prayers and shifting focus to “anything but” the obvious tells me that no, it’s not wanted but it’s “allowed” hoping it’ll blow over as it usually does.
