They’ve been doing mild property damage all over Europe. This is one of the few cases that made it to our US news.
They know precisely what they’re doing, have the legal teams ready, long before they step food in the museum. It’s all scripted and planned; you can tell because in each case (I’ve seen five or six different ones so far), none of it was haphazard movements; they were all coordinated and fast.
The tomato soup fell onto plastic or glass, which was quickly cleaned up, the painting safely sealed behind it as this is not the first nor last time this kind of thing has happened. Museums know.

I was annoyed that they tried to hit The Scream a few days ago and glad they only got a little glue on the wall first. You won’t see that video in US news I bet – I had to search through foreign language news to find it.But I also know they’re not causing real damage.
