They’ve been an interesting group to study, although it’s embarrasses me that I’m a man and they’re also men [alt . right]

I’m in a group here on Facebook that attracts the worst of them. I’ve been studying their behavioral patterns. This subculture not tied to religion: It’s the alt.right and I can write up a list of related beliefs they tend to share in common.

Adoration of Hitler.
Something they call “Scientific Racialism” – it’s not racism.
Some of them are MRAs “Men’s Rights Activists”.
I can write a long list I think.

They’ve been an interesting group to study, although it’s embarrasses me that I’m a man and they’re also men. I don’t find the alt.right scary, just noisy. Many of them have multiple fake accounts in order to make it look like more people agree with them than actually do.

Many members of the alt.right believe than are “Alpha males” but they’re trying too hard. The concept of the Alpha male is a bit of modern mythology, as is the whole field of Evolutionary Psychology, but I don’t want to start there. It’s a personality type that they want and try to make people believe they have.

The good news is: most men are not child sexual predators and also most men are not potential rapists.

The bad news is: There’s a lot of men who are creeps out there who sure make it seems there’s a lot of them out there. The guy at your work that thought he was flirting with The Shining comment probably has no idea just how creepy he was being.

It’s part of a deeper problem of how men do not learn appropriate engaging techniques: They carry 3rd-7th grade ideas into adulthood.
