My goals are more in the realm of cognitive science not trends in AI but AI makes for good metaphors for a number of things, particularly when using video game character behavior.
There’s not just the cutting edge of things but there’s also the 8 year olds just starting to learn how to get their NPC in Roblox to have a conversation with them, the 12 year old that succeeds in making an interesting playable game for friends with a few interacting NPC, maybe even having them talk to one another.
It’s all stepping stones. I expect within a few years, kids will be able to record themselves walking around a space and moving arms and head around with VR and having an AI learning the movements – not just recording a macro to replay which itself will be amazing to witness — and insert it into a game or virtual environment they’re creating.
