There’s lots of gentleman’s agreements. There’s also conspiracies by a few powerful. There’s still some truth in there. Might be able to get at it, might not. It’s always possible to construct a plausible narrative and convince others it’s true or convince one’s self. What’s reasonable is plausible yet what’s true is “who knows” territory. That’s why there’s no singular World History book.
