Then I had to figured out where they belonged to put them together.

Well, the tools I’m using are a mixture of things.  They all work under Windows 8, as I have Windows 7.  I used one of the mappers listed on the minecraft site to make an overhead view of the whole map and it breaks it into tiles automatically.

Then I had to figured out where they belonged to put them together.  It does it for you, but some of the worlds were so big they hung my computer.

So I used Excel to calculate the right coordinates compared to the region numbers, then learned about something called WLD files which can ‘tag’ images with geographic information.  Then I merged the WLD file (which is just six lines of text… one for each of the 10,000 files…), into NEW files called GeoTIFF and now Im putting it together.

I WAS going to use Overviewer – which makes a REALLY NICE map.. but the rendering was going to take 11 DAYS! I don’t want to wait 11 days.  So I using shortcut after shortcut after shortcut :P
