this particular issue existed long ago, back when the idea of people legitimately considering themselves “nazi” in the USA was ridiculous and silly and when “fascism/antifascism” were just terms from WW2 textbooks.
The USA has seen greater and greater militarization of police over the decades. They’d make a small request for military equipment. Then a larger request. And a larger one. This continued over a period of several *decades*, through multiple presidencies.
By the time it reached the President’s desk during Obama’s time, it was crisis point. Too much power in the hands of people with too little training.
I wouldn’t have as much of a problem if the only people authorized to operate military equipment ALSO received proper military training. But many of these police using this equipment only had nine months of police school before starting their jobs.
Far too little training to operate such equipment responsibly.
More to the point: A country does not declare war on its own citizens.
