The part of the Republican party associated with Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich, I consider faux Republican. This is set usually set in contrast to the Bush family Republican. Now I remember when BOTH the Newt Gingrich AND the Bush family Republican was contrasted against the Rockefeller Republican. It’s been said that Colin Powell is a rare modern example of a Rockefeller Republican. Some have said that the Bush family is as well but Reagan was not. I don’t think either is true. Closest you’ll find to a modern Rockefeller Republican would be Bill Weld I think. Nowadays, Newt Gingrich-family Republicans refer to the Bill Welds as “RINO” – Republicans In Name Only, a derisive term. There was a wonderful article which unfortunately is no longer on the web, called the “Howling Wilderness of Pseudo-Conservatism”, written in 2004 by an old-school conservative. If you search you’ll find references to it. I consider the Newt Gingrich family of conservatism to be Pseudo-conservatism and not true Republican. Those they call RINO, I consider true Republican. Now, I haven’t read that article posted. I have my opinions already and an article isn’t likely to sway. But the headline and discussions in this prompted me to write a few words.
