he overload on the system caused by zero tolerance has caused asylum seekers, non asylum seekers, port of entry *and* non port of entry crossings to be treated the same.
Ill prepared. A created crisis. Onus is on the powerful to get it right.

Right used to be confederalist too but is now federalist. I don’t think left and right mean what they used to anymore.

Good thing those US Border agents were there to save her from certain devastation.
===
I’m sure it is. So having no signs for her to see was to encourage traffickers to cross and then get caught in the act. A sting then. Amazing.

I’m a hybrid. I’m not an anarchist as laws matter. I’m not authoritarian but do your duty and do it right. If the powerful only protect themselves, they’re weak.
=====
Ripe for a mugging by US border patrol. At least she eventually got released once her papers were in order.
=====
All I can say in our defense is we haven’t reached Turkish prison or Mexican police levels yet.
===
Iran was just doing border patrol after all. Sadly, there probably ARE cases in the US like it but we’ll never know.

That’s why for human rights, I don’t watch other countries. I watch my own. Since the early 90s and HRW was available.
We do better than some, worse than others and we can always improve.
When I see deterioration, I pay extra attention, such as now.
I did the same after 9/11 under Bush and during the influx of refugees under Obama.
As Americans, political party doesn’t matter. What our country does represents us all.
—
We don’t do better than all. Iceland is probably one of the best in this regard, although they’re starting to get hints of problems with religious freedoms (Iceland is mostly atheist).

Outsider perspectives are crucial. We left ONCHR because Philip Alston’s report on extreme poverty was painfully accurate and reflects things unlikely to change (because of our nesting dolls form of govt).
I wish we hadn’t left as it’s a valuable opportunity for self reflection but emotions are delicate now and our administration easily offended by negativity.
In any case, this is the report delivered yesterday on “extreme poverty and human rights”. Part 1 is the USA and it’s why we left a few days beforehand.
=====
You toe the party line, or echo it. That’s fine. I’ve been watching from before this particular organization came into play and will continue watching reports as they come in.
We’re hardly going to say bad things about ourselves. After all, this is America. #1 in all. What’s not to love? If you don’t like it, leave. Etc.

I’m not mad at you Joe. I just answered Brittany’s question. Is running a business not a job? Paying business taxes not a job? Ok.
Only reason I have a mortgage is because I worked for Schering-Plough as a systems analyst for a few years in NJ.
====
I own the business. I have several employees, usually family but sometimes outsiders. 15 yrs now. This is why I get to work from home.
I must’ve told you about 9/11, seeing one tower standing and the other a pile of smoke… or smelling the burnt concrete the next day.
===
Ah. I was supposed to be there for training I didn’t need that week. Also, I saw it from the top of the parking garage at work.
I’m sure I told you about learning to invest, how I saved 53% of my income there, stuff like that.
Anyway, I don’t talk much about my work history as it’s just that thing you gotta do to get the things you need to pay the bills.
====
I’m friends with you and equally. Nobody needs my permission to debate or argue or make friends or block or whatever.
I can’t force you to play nice. I can’t force Brittany to play nice. You’re both grown adults capable of making choices and living with consequences.
I’ll still be friends with both of you whether or not you’re friends with each other.
—–
Now if you’ve been littering on Brittany’s wall, she’s got every right to take you to task on it. Saying something to me first was the civil thing to do and rare.
