I wanted to like it.. I really did. Great premise. I loved the scene changing and the specialfx were not bad for 1999 or so (they’re laughable now)….
..but it’s the tone. SOO DAMNED SERIOUS. It was made for 14 year old potheads with dreams of Universal Domination and 40 year old men who are going to CHANGE THE WORLD when they reveal THE TRUTH about EVERYTHING.
[been through both stages briefly, but not inspired by The Matrix. I passed my New Age stage (Control reality) by the age of 12 and my Buddhist stage (It’s all an illusion) by 21.. so by the time The Matrix came out, it was old hat. Wanted to like it. Had great potential but WAY TOO FUCKING SERIOUS.]
Besides, I knew too much about the way computers and networks work and about what they use for specialfx to be impressed by future tech or brain interfaces or even sleeping in alien goo, and my teenage angst was long over with to care about THE REVOLUTION against THE THEM].
