The intentional displacement of families is what drives me in this case. That is what gets me angry about ANY nation’s involvement in another nation’s affairs: I follow HRW and have since the mid 1990s online. I look at what the USA is doing wrong each year. And every here, the USA is doing something distasteful, embarrassing and criminal. It is rare that I pay too much attention to another country because the USA has too much of its own crap to fix. In each war, I have the same typical pacifists response about war: soldier dying, arms trade, all bad. No excuse for calling civilian property damage or killing non-combatants “collateral damage” I make my case and my stand each and every time online. But sometimes, things are different. Ukraine. I have a lot of Ukrainian friends as I do Russian friends. This is affecting families. Kids. Regular people who just want normal existence. Russia’s lied to the mother’s about their kids being on exercises. Attacks are intentionally savage. There’s no humanitarian corridor here. This is burn it all, cruelty is power and strength. If I didn’t have actual friends in Ukraine and Russia maybe I could be que sera sera. It’s a first-world luxury. And really, no, I don’t have to care.

Aleppo is what made me care in Syria. Bombing civilians made me care in Ukraine. Soldiers forming rape gangs in Kosovo made me care there.
And Afghanistan? I was irritated by the “free market” neoliberal cheap labor situations there.
