The getting tired / going to sleep thing I never understood.

I understand sleeping, waking up, and being awake. I understand enough about the bodies processes to have a good sense of how the machinery works there.

But why do we get tired? It’s more than just calories or sugar or fat metabolism, the heat outside or inside, your emotional states, The temperature of the light around you.

Where does the brain fog come from?

Do plaques form around the axons or micro tubules ? Does the water that sloshes back-and-forth in your head every half a second get cluttered with all the chemicals squirting in your brain and it needs to drain out and filter down your brain stem?

I have no mental visualization of what the process entails. “Engine running down” is not enough of a metaphor for me.

I know with Anesthesia, your brain matter goes from being somewhat watery to something a little thicker – like going from olive oil to Lard.

The closer to lard your brain is, the more sleep you are in Anastasia.

But is that it? It seems too simple.
