The fight over one iota was a really big deal – electricity and science and religion

The process of figuring out which books to keep or get rid of was a serious issue. Lots of confusing ideas floating around and they were REALLY precise about it. Think how nitpicky people get online about precision… well, the Greek church was really picky and they argued and debated just like we do on the ‘net now.

I mean – there WAS no Internet. They had to hash these things out in person and it was serious stuff. Our “wouldn’t it be nice” to them was Scientific Truth. We don’t live in that world anymore so one has to imagine how difficult it was and how important it was to “get it right”.

The fight over “one iota” (the Greek letter i) was a HUGE deal. 1700 year division over a letter. But getting it wrong means getting the Nature of Man wrong, like telling someone “Putting a knife in the electric socket will kill you” vs “Putting a knife in the electric socket will energize you.”
