Look at the people attempting to rewrite history right now, as we speak, from our federal government. In speeches with changed history, rewordings of things, making past injustices seem like “no big deal”.

The national black colleges were now just a part of a choice exercised freely by a free people who chose to pursue excellence.

Sounds equality-ish. Sounds great! Not how it went down though and why.

Your sentiment is the kind we grew up with. “If we don’t talk about differences, the differences go away magically and we’re suddenly all equal.

We had this idea drilled into us from TV and education. Our generation (GenX) heard it and believe it.

It was a great sentiment! Great idea. Great solution that the people trying to change society by changing how we thought about ourselves and each other used and still try.

but.. it was missing something, ,something just behind your left shoulder as you look into the mirror late at night. Did you see it? Ah, you blinked. Missed it. We usually miss it.
