“School choice” is using public funding for evangelical christian schools.
It’s unfortunate because school voucher programs *should* open things up to all kinds of private schools but the group with the biggest $$ and political connections to start the schools is the evangelical christian groups.
The Catholic school machine is just not that powerful Jack. It may help a few but many more will have to go into religious schools that are of questionable character.
Stick a cross on a charter school doesn’t make it Christian.
You might not know about the Magnet schools . I’d bet $$ that there’s magnet schools in Baltimore that a kid who is having problems with bullies in public can go to.
They’re not talked about much in the news but their effectiveness is stellar and has been.
There you go. No vouchers needed for alternatives. Program’s already there.
They probably do. But there’s $ to be made in using your kid to support Conservative Christian politics. I’m sure they got $ for this.
Oh, I’m just assuming they got paid for their story because their story is being used by Betsy Devos and other politicians for THEIR causes and fundraising. Now I’m just having fun following the $$.Maybe they’re nice simple folk (Josh Landers runs a small construction business, has 6 kids) but the organizations using them for their purposes aren’t necessarily on the up and up.
So, I hope those wealthy folks are paying that kid’s Vocational School and Apprenticeship ’cause his “My Roblox Bully Story” is going to make help others a lot of $ and power and he should get a piece of it.
Worker’s Rights is usually: Unions, minimum wage, safety inspections and ability to sue employer.
Privatizing education means for-profit schools. They’re not new and usually end up in scandal a few years after starting. Privatizing education, while good in theory, is a money funneling machine that can’t be tracked. With watchdogs, I’m fine with privatized education. Without? I’m not.
Florida’s school voucher program is probably the best in the USA — and also has never ending scandals.I could show you the worst state but this is the best one
If any state wants a school voucher program, Florida is probably the best model. Overall, it works great. But some cases are pretty awful. This one ran for 10 yrs and was so bad it was yanked off the voucher program.
“The justices determined that charters did not qualify as “common” schools—basically, public schools—because they are not overseen by locally elected school boards and, therefore, were not eligible to draw money from the general fund.”Makes sense. Reading on:
Oh, Gates goes where the $ is found. MSNBC is almost Fox for the other side. I like it but I know its bias.“. But the law as passed has numerous problems, including that it restricts the rights of charter school teachers to unionize and bargain for their pay and benefits — despite state law that allows public employees to unionize, ”
There it is. Not so different than Koch Bros.
Oh why? $$ to be made. Profit, my boy. Profit. Why did the “Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation” pour $$ into Common Core? To get Microsoft to take over Apple in Education technology. Common Core failed but Microsoft won and has all the delicious contracts now, as well as a stake in major testing companies.
Not that I’m sorry for Apple either but I was glad when Obama got rid of the Bush law that tied teacher pay to performance, which effectively killed Common Core.
