That’s the problem and what defund the police is about. Add more social programs to lower the strain on the police department. Ask: why is the crowd there? Do they have a message? Is anybody discussing the issues raised by the crowd in a rational manner which can have lasting impact on the community? If nobody is listening? Why not?

Our minds are warped by “thin blue line” thinking rather than a “These are all American citizens and community members” way of thinking.

People don’t just march for nothing. They don’t gather for nothing. There’s a reason. It’s very possible it’s a legitimate reason. Find out. Assign a task force. Discuss. See what changes need to be made for a functioning community.

 

Communities, which INCLUDE police but also things like the mayor’s office and various councils and citizens, have to be able to come together on these things.

If there’s a lack of communication, then there’s a problem. The various offices should not be at arms with each other like this.
