That’s an unfortunate aspect of life, but it’s there.

It’s normal and healthy I think, and I think it helps keeps a sense of “me” separate from the “not-me” that’s everybody else out there.

It’s practical as well, especially if there’s a chance that something you say can be turned around on you. That’s an unfortunate aspect of life, but it’s there.
