Teeth and eyes are hardly covered by anybody. Why? I think because it’s too universal and common. You’re GOING to have tooth and eye problems in your life at some point. No benefit for insurance companies to get involved.

But the state is merely acting as a substitute insurance company, so they follow similar guidelines.

Chiropractors are often covered because if the patients feel no more pain, there’s no expensive painkillers/hospital stays needed, so cheap for insurance companies to cover. [even paying full $$, chiroprctors are cheap].

But dental and vision are expensive… and something everybody eventually needs… so there’s no $ in it for insurance companies… or govts to get involved with it if they don’t have to.

Not sure but I think it’s wrong that dental coverage is hard to get. A good company/govt insurance plan will also have dental insurance added to it: I had good dental for a few years once, got everything fixed up. But when it’s without? It can be suffering. Had a nasty occasion where I had to get antibiotics from the doc just like you said. It fixed the infection and I cleaned it carefully after that for a few months until I could get to a dentist finally.

Having done both, dental insurance is much much better.
