Surface garbage gets shoveled up and sent to a landfill, which is where such things go.
The underground pipeline sits, waiting, unknown to the people above, until one day, there’s a break.
But nobody knows here’s a break right away.
You turn on your faucet, and the water’s a little oily. You start to feel sick. You don’t know why.
It goes on for years, especially if it’s a slow leak.
