lol I’m playing this and a bird started chirping in syncopation with it.

  In this case the substrate is the air carrying the ‘beats’.
In a brain? Probably brain matter itself. I’d say the sinus pulse (water that sloshes back and forth every 1/2 second between the two hemispheres) but what kind of vibrations can water carry through all of those wrinkly paths?
======
  I’d compare those ” self-organizing” phase transitions and see if mathematically they corrrolate to heart beat, which is what seems to generate this pulse.“CSF moves in a single outward direction from the ventricles, but multidirectionally in the subarachnoid space.[3] Fluid movement is pulsatile, matching the pressure waves generated in blood vessels by the beating of the heart.[3] Some authors dispute this, posing that there is no unidirectional CSF circulation, but cardiac cycle-dependent bi-directional systolic-diastolic to-and-fro cranio-spinal CSF movements.[4]”

 I think phase transitions may correlate. They’ve identified neuronal oscillators which regulate heart pace, which in turn regulates cerebrospinal fluid pulse which in turn may “nudge” small neuron networks towards phase transition.I could be wrong of course. But with a homeostatic system as the human body seems to be, I don’t think it’s right to try to “lift out” neural nets and treat them as if they’re NOT part of a larger system which itself is geared towards homeostatis to function.https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1011216131638

 Homeostasis is a fuzzy thing of course. I mean, we die so it’s not quite perfect.the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.
=====
 There’s a whole nutty (to me) theory of intelligence that links it all to skull shape and good vs “degenerate” wave patterns that result.I don’t buy it but it has mathematical allure (and a “justification” for “scientific racialism” or whatever they call racism now). Still, any idea can be taken WAY too far.
======
 and since Ideal Gas law forms foundations of stochastic processes, statistical theory, the modern concept of “randomness” – it’s crucial.

R’s value and units change depending on the unit of pressure”
Sounds like it’s a kind of renormalizing feature. Like you said, “makes the maths work”.
=====
 There’s lots of constants that need looking at but R is a big one.

  I think the photon would be good unit 1 as it’s boundary btwn “classical” and “quantum”. So, just set all of its measurements to 1. Make it base unit as it’s used that way anyhow.

 Ah! So your postulate spacetime-as-medium and not as generative?
