Someone fixed it for me by telling me to have a “default position”. Best thing ever.

They’ve done studies with ppl who have damage amygdalas. They’re described as being “living economists”. They’re as close to pure reasoning as is humanly possible. They don’t have the emotional “push”. So, what did they discover? It can take them MONTHS to make even the simplest of decisions because they’re weighing out ALL of the factors in their minds to see what balances out to advantage.

I have a ‘bit’ of that myself: I used to get flummoxed at a restaurant menu, even if it’s the SAME menu I’ve seen before. Too many choices. Too much knowlege about nutricion, cost, value, timing, etc.

If I’m at McDonalds, I have a double cheeseburger. Done. I don’t have to think. Such freedom. I have default choices for lots of things now.

I CAN still look for “the perfect answer for now” if I want to, but at least I don’t HAVE to.
